The inspiration for the REA emerged from the 2008-2009 Residents' Council Presidents. Further development of this award continued with the 2009-2010 Council Presidents.
The purpose of the Residence Engagement Award (REA) is to recognize the positive contributions and demonstrated leadership efforts of a first-year student within the residence community. Up to five awards across campus will be granted.
The REA provides incentive for students to return to a leadership position within the residences. Recipients are guaranteed their first choice of residence for the following academic year, will have their residence deposit covered (value of $900), and receive a certificate signed by the President of the University.
Recipients of the Residence Engagement Award will meet the following criteria:
Award recipients are chosen based on their application and reference. Applications and references are reviewed by a selection committee comprised of student leaders and full-time Western staff members.

If you would like to be considered for the REA, please fill out an Online Application (closed). In addition to a completed application, an REA Reference Form, supporting your application must be submitted by a current upper year residence student leader (Residence Staff, Residence Soph, and Residents' Council Executive).
